Did you know repeated bites from infected mosquitoes can also transmit a parasitic disease called lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis?
Elephantiasis is caused by parasitic filarial worms. When an infected mosquito bites a person, it can deposit microscopic larvae into the skin. These larvae enter the lymphatic system and eventually develop into adult worms.
Over time, the worms can damage the lymphatic vessels, affecting the body’s ability to drain fluid properly. This can lead to severe swelling of the legs, arms, breasts, or genital area.

- Protect yourself from mosquito bites
- Sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets
- Use appropriate mosquito repellents
- Reduce stagnant water where mosquitoes breed
